Island Strawberry
Curtis Heid, one of the Bellagio's ace bartenders, starts off this month's column with his tropical creation.
- 1 1/4 oz. Malibu Rum
- 3/4 oz. Remy Red
- 3 oz. pineapple juice
- 1 oz. fresh sweet sour
- 1 oz. fresh strawberry mix
- 3/4 oz. Remy Red
Combine all in a shaker filled with ice. Shake, strain and serve in a Martini glass. Garnish with pineapple wedge and/or strawberry.
Horizon's Sunset
Mark Rector, head bartender, the Lodge at Woodcliff, Rochester, NY, offers this juicy recipe.
- 1/2 oz. brandy
- 1/2 oz. triple sec
- 1 oz. Capt. Morgan Spiced Rum
- 1 oz. Capt. Morgan Parrot Bay
- 1 oz. OJ
- 1 oz. pineapple juice
- 1 oz. cranberry juice
- splash grenadine
- 1/2 oz. triple sec
Combine ingredients in a shaker cup filled with ice. Shake
and strain into a pint or Hurricane glass filled with ice.
Garnish with orange slice or cherry.
Best of Ten
Another of Rochester's best, Debbie Quinney, Daisy Flour Mill, sends us this one.
- 1 1/2 oz. Tanqueray Ten
- 1 1/2 oz. Mango Fruja
- 1/2 oz. Rose's Lime Juice
- splash grenadine.
- 1 1/2 oz. Mango Fruja
Combine all in a shaker filled with ice. Shake, strain and
serve in a Martini glass.
Wacky Iraqi
Inevitable name for a cocktail, no? From James Taylor, bar manager, Lord Fletcher's, Rancho Mirage, CA.
- 2 oz. Bacardi Vanîla
- 1/2 oz. Frangelico
Pour into a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into
a 5 oz. Martini glass and garnish with three salted peanuts.
Angelino
Ken Lusar, Ristorante Mamma Gina's, Newport Beach, CA, sent us another from his fertile mind.
- 1 oz. Zone Tangerine Vodka
- 1/4 oz. Campari
- 1/4 oz. Limoncello
- 2 oz. freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1/4 oz. Campari
Pour all into a shaker cup filled with ice. Shake and strain
into Martini glass and garnish with zest of lemon and orange.
Vanilla Sky
Rudy Spinosa, beverage manager at the Tropicana Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, has a new coffee drink to share.
- 1 oz. Das Komet
- 1/2 oz. coffee liqueur
- coffee
- whipped cream
- 1/2 oz. coffee liqueur
Make in an Irish Coffee glass.
Türi Cape Martini
George Delgado, former beverage guy at the late, lamented Greatest Bar on Earth at Windows on the World created this one for Türi vodka.
- 1 1/2 oz. Türi Vodka
- cranberry juice concentrate
Fill Martini glass halfway with cranberry concentrate. Tightly
seal top of glass with plastic wrap and place in the freezer
on an angle to freeze the concentrate on a slant. Shake Türi
over ice and strain into prepared glass when frozen. Garnish
with lime wheel.
Regal Pleasure
Mount Gay is celebrating its 300th anniversary with this one.
- 2 oz. Mount Gay Extra Old Rum
- 1 oz. amaretto
- 3/4 oz. crème de banana
- 4 oz. pineapple juice
- 1 oz. amaretto
Pour all over ice. Shake and strain into High-Ball glass filled
with ice. Garnish with pineapple spear and sprig of mint.
Jade Cocktail
From the Jade Bar, SF, CA.
- 1 1/4 oz. Smirnoff Twist Vanilla Vodka
- 1/2 oz. Midori
- 1 oz. fresh lime juice
- 1 oz. sweet and sour
- 1 1/2 oz. pineapple juice
- 1/2 oz. Midori
Shake all vigorously in a shaker filled with ice. Strain into a large, chilled Martini glass and garnish with a twist of lemon.
