Faux Nog
The Distilled Spirits Council brings us some holiday and winter recipes created by bartender extraordinaire Dale DeGroff.
- 3/4 oz. vodka
- 3/4 oz. white crème de cacao
- 2 oz. heavy cream
- 3 dashes Angostura bitters
- 3/4 oz. white crème de cacao
Shake all over ice and strain over crushed ice in a rocks glass. Finish with a dusting of nutmeg.
Cherry Kiss
- 1 oz. gin
- 1/2 oz. maraschino liqueur
- 2 oz. pineapple juice
- 3 dashes grenadine
- 1/2 oz. maraschino liqueur
Shake all over ice, strain into a Martini glass and top with grated nutmeg.
Dixie Toddy
- 3/4 oz. bourbon
- 3/4 oz. apple liqueur
- 5 oz. spiced cider
- 3/4 oz. apple liqueur
Pour all into a mug and garnish with cinnamon stick.
Pekaba Hot Chai
- 5 oz. hot Chai tea (an Indian spiced milk tea made with
black tea, milk, spices and sweetener)
- 3/4 oz. peppermint schnapps
- 3/4 oz. Irish cream liqueur
- 3/4 oz. peppermint schnapps
Pour all into a mug and garnish with nutmeg.
Christmas Cocktail
From Jan Naftulin, Fior d'Italia, SF, CA, who says this one looks and tastes like a candy cane.
- 1 oz. gin
- 1 oz. peppermint schnapps
- grenadine
- 1 oz. peppermint schnapps
Coat a Martini or pony glass with grenadine, pour gin and peppermint schnapps over ice, shake, strain and pour into glass.
La Vesuvio
Created by Audrey Saunders, beverage director of NYC's the Tonic for Bacardi O.
- 3 lemon wedges, halved
- 1 oz. simple syrup
- 6 mint leaves
- 1 oz. Bacardi O
- 1 oz. brandy
- 1 oz. simple syrup

Place lemon wedges, simple syrup and mint into mixing glass and muddle. Add Bacardi O and brandy, fill with ice, shake well and strain into a Martini glass. Float and flame lemon wheel.
MoMo

- 1 1/2 oz. Bacardi O
- 1 oz. rock candy syrup or simple syrup
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- 1/2 navel orange, sliced
- 1/2 lime, sliced
- 6-8 mint leaves
- soda water
- 1 oz. rock candy syrup or simple syrup
In a mixing glass, moderately muddle syrup, bitters, mint, orange and lime together. Fill with cracked ice, add Bacardi O, shake and pour into 12-oz. goblet. Spritz with soda water, garnish with sprig of mint and serve with straws to keep the nose out of the shrubbery.
The Grape Experience

- 1 oz. Chambord
- 1 oz. Absolut Citron
- 1/2 oz. triple sec
- 1/4 oz. blue curaçao
- splash cranberry juice
- splash sour mix
- splash Sprite
- 1 oz. Absolut Citron
Pour all over ice, shake and strain into a Martini glass. Garnish with a cherry.
Stoli Creamy Dreamy
- 1 part Stoli Vanil
- 1 part Carolans Irish Cream
- splash Hiram Walker Amaretto
- 1 part Carolans Irish Cream
Pour all over ice, shake strain and serve with a cherry.
The Old-Fashioned Blues
We end with one from our pal, Bill Davis, the New Mulberry park Café, Lancaster, PA.
- 1 1/2 oz. Old Grand Dad
- splash blue curaçao
- 6 blueberries
- sugar cube
- orange slice
- club soda
- splash blue curaçao
Muddle blueberries, orange slice, sugar cube and soda. Add ice, Old Grand Dad and curaçao. Shake, strain into ice-filled glass and top with club soda.
